Selected among several local outstanding youth, Andrew Gabriel Carrillo will compete against other Boys & Girls Club members for the California Youth of the Year title and a $1,000 college scholarship from Tupperware Brands Corporation. As the new Youth of the Year for East Valley Boys & Girls Club, 16-year old Andrew is a true example of an extraordinary young man recognized by Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) for his sound character, leadership skills and willingness to give back to the community.

Being named Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive. As BGCA’s premier youth recognition program, Youth of the Year recognizes outstanding contributions to a member’s family, school, community and Boys & Girls Club, as well as overcoming personal challenges and obstacles. Youth of the Year encourages Club members to reach their full potential by achieving academic success, leading healthy lifestyles and contributing to their communities. Youth of the Year honorees are shining examples and living proof that great futures start at Boys & Girls Clubs.

"Andrew Carrillo is an exceptional member of the East Valley Boys and Girls Club, La Puente Unit. He signs into the club with a positive attitude and looks forward to helping out staff with daily ‘club duties’. Not only does he volunteer his time at the club on a daily basis, but he participates in all of our teen programming, as well,” said Charles Karsch, Executive Director, East Valley Boys & Girls Club.

"My main motivation is my future. I know that without college, I won’t fully succeed in life. My goal is to attend USC. I love their big campus, amazing basketball team, and excellent academics. I want to major in criminal justice in order to serve my community and keep it safe. I would also like to experience being in the military because I want to fight for my country to help keep everyone safe. After experiencing those life changers, I would want to pursue a career in S.W.A.T. so that I can utilize all the skills I will have learned in the military,” said Andrew Carrillo, EVBGC Youth of the Year.
